Football-first analytics for grassroots teams
The Sidelines
(thesidelines.app)
turns what you see on the touchline into simple, useful football analytics for grassroots teams.
Football remains the main version of the app, but The Sidelines now also includes a basketball mode for tracking games, reports and team insights.
Live match updates mean you can keep your WhatsApp groups fully up to date while a match is in play, and even highlight the performance of an individual player.
Track what you see on your mobile
Use a simple landscape tracker during a match. Enter fixture details, start and stop the timer,
then tap buttons for shots, passes, tackles, corners, goals and other key events.
It is designed for real touchline use: quick enough to use during play, but structured enough
to produce meaningful data. The same idea now also supports basketball, with sport-specific buttons and reports.
Share match reports
Each tracked match creates a report that can be viewed during the game or after full-time.
Share a public link or QR code with people who are not app users.
Football reports include scoreline, goals, shot data, momentum, pitch location and MatchFlow replay.
Basketball reports include scoreline, scoring trends, shooting data, lead state and player scoring.
Build team insights
Combine matches to understand how a team is performing over time. For football, this includes shot conversion,
final-third pressure, corner threat, passing sequences and match momentum.
Basketball team insights are also available, including shooting accuracy, shot volume, points over time,
lead state and fouls per game.
Focus player tracking
Sometimes you want to understand one player’s contribution without losing the wider match picture.
Focus player tracking lets you tag selected actions to a chosen player while continuing to track the match normally.
Regular tracking stays regular - focus player actions can be marked with a long press and reported separately afterwards.
Basketball mode
Basketball mode uses the same Sidelines idea: track the game simply, create useful reports,
and build team insights from repeated matches.
It includes game tracking, public basketball reports and team insight tools. Football is still the lead version,
so some basketball features may differ while the app continues to develop.
What can it show?
When your team tends to be strongest or weakest - in one match or across them all.
How your shot conversion or shooting accuracy compares with your opponent.
Whether you are creating more final-third pressure in football, or better scoring chances in basketball.
How momentum and lead patterns shift during matches.
Who is scoring, assisting and contributing across games.
Why I built it
I’m a football parent who has watched hundreds of junior, youth and adult matches from the sidelines.
After enough weekends watching patterns appear and disappear in real time, I wanted a way to turn that eye
into something useful.
Accounts, access and open beta
The Sidelines is currently in open beta. Features may change, rough edges may appear,
and the app is still being improved based on real use.
It is a website, so it works on any modern phone browser. The Android app is also available, and users can switch between football and basketball after signing in.
The plan is a simple subscription model with a 14-day trial, so users can try the app properly
before deciding whether it helps their team.
